I have 2 Exchange 2013 servers behind a physical load balancer (Kemp) in a VMWare 5.5 environment at our old HQ building. I want to move them into the VMWare 6.0 environment at our *new* building. I have Cisco Meraki VPN between the 2 (new hq is the hub, old hq is one of many spokes). I have been able to move file servers, app servers and such by just exporting OVF to an external drive hooked to my laptop and then importing at the other end, but I want avoid extended email downtime if I can.
I *THOUGHT* that since I had 2 exchange servers, I could power one down, export ovf, carry it to the new HQ, spin it up, give it's new IP and then update the pointer in the load balancer, but as soon as 1 of the 2 servers gets powered down, everyone's email disconnects......
Has anyone else seen or been in this situation? Any tips or suggestions on how best to accomplish this?
Thanks in advance.
PS - I also have 2 DCs that are providing dns and DHCP that I want to move as well, probably a discussion for another day.
