Is it supported by VMware to run pooled View vms with vmx-09 hardware version? On a support call for PCOIP not working through the Security server (it works everywhere else, including connecting through the Security Server while on the same LAN), and they asked me what virtual hardware version I am using. As this is a new deployment, we are using vmx-09 and I never ran across explicit documentation not to use vmx-09. Asking me to try vmx-08. I am ok with trying this as a test, but their support starts telling me vmx-09 is not supported (though not with any assertive confidence or supporting documentation). The View 5.1 Administration Guide says the following on "If you create the virtual machine on an ESXi 5.0 or later host or cluster, you can select virtual hardware version 8 or 7. Version 8 provides greater virtual machine functionality. If the host or cluster is ESX/ESXi 4.0 or later, you can select virtual hardware version 7 only." Doesn't say "Don't use 9, or only use so and so version", and their documentation is always clear to point out unsupported features or versions.
My support call was for help with our firewall being set up correctly. I can set up a vmx-08 vm for the support call, and get pcoip working with through the Security Server with a VMX-08 vm, but I need to know if i will run into vmx-09 issues every time I call Vmware for help. i will just switch to vmx-08 and go back and recreate my carefully created parent vms again!!
