Sysprep on Windows 7 VM question

Hello,

I am trying to get some clarification if what I am thinking of doing is okay. I have cloned a Windows 7 VM and it will be used as a template for the remainder of my machines. I am aware that with windows7 the sysprep tools are built in and that I can use a preset customization spec in vsphere to enter appropriate data but what I am wondering is the following:

Can't I just run sysprep generalize on the win7 vm and then just deploy the template to a new vm without having to choose the customization option and then change the name, IP, etc...after I log in?

Not saying I am going to do it this way, I am just curious if it is also ok since all I am needing sysprep for is a new SID in my scenario.

Thank you.
